John Fisher was born in 1819 in Wythburn, Cumberland, England, the son of Thomas Fisher and Hannah Raven. He was christened in 1822 in St. Bees Church, St. Bees. Cumberland.
He married Ann Nail, or Neal, in 1849 at St. Bees Church, St. Bees, Cumberland.
Ann, or Hannah as she is variously recorded, was the daughter of William Nail and Margaret Bradley. She was born in 1830 at Scily Banks, Cumberland, and was christened in the Holy Trinity Church in Whitehaven, Cumberland.
As far as I can ascertain, they had the following children:

John's occupation is listed as a shoemaker in Sandwith from 1853-1863. In 1863 he is the inkeeper at the "Dog and Partridge" hotel in Sandwith, which is still standing.
Again his occupation is given as a shoemaker in Hugh Street, Preston Quarter in 1881 and 1887, and 1891 in Bransty.
Ann predeased her husband and passed away in 1894. aged 65 years. She is buried in the churchyard at St. Bees Church, St. Bees, Cumberland.
Aged 80, John died in 1898 in Sandwith, and is buried with his wife, Ann, in the churchyeard at St. Bees Church.
Their headstone was inscribed as follows -
"JOHN
FISHER who died June 22, 1898 aged 80 years
ANN the beloved wife of John Fisher who died Feb 21, 1894 aged 65 years"
The church records and gravestone was viewed by John Francis Raven Fisher in 1997. Unfortunately, on a return visit in the mid 1980s the headstones in the churchyard had been placed against the walls, and in 1982 when visited by his great, great, great grandson Tom and myself, were no longer there.
