Tom's paternal Fisher family arrived in the port of Melbourne, Victoria Australia, in April 1879 aboard the "Northumberland" with the arrival of his great grandfather John Raven Fisher and his older brother David Fisher, having departed St. Bees near Whitehaven in Cumbria England.
The brothers were joined in Australia at later stages by their sisters Hannah Taylor and Elizabeth Raven Hope and her family, and brothers Thomas and Daniel.
Their parents John and Ann (nee Nail) and sister Jane remained in St. Bees.
