James EDINGTON was born about 1829 / 1837 in Haddingtonsch, Spotte, East Lothian, SCOTLAND, the son of James EDINGTON (about 1807 - before 1851) and Janet or Jessie FERGUSON (about 1807 - before 1868). He is my great great grandfather.
According to the census of 1851 his occupation is that of an agricultural labourer. In 1859, 1864, 1868, 1878, 1880, 1881, and 1886 he is a gamekeeper. At later times in 1891, 1901 and 1906 he is a grocer.
On 17 June 1859 James his first wife Ellen HARRAH or O'HARA, the daughter of Barney HARRAH (- before 1864) & Ann BRODIE or BRODAY (- befor 1864), in Bredick, Arran, Parish of Kilbride, County of Buto, SCOTLAND.
Ellen HARRAH / O'HARA was born abt 1830/ 1833 in ? SCOTLAND.
They had one child:
i. Edward (1864-1923)
Sadly Ellen EDINGTON died on 18 May 1864 in Little Townhead, Fenwick, Ayr, SCOTLAND. I do not know where she is buried.
On 13 March 1868 James married for the second time Mary HYSLOP, daughter of John HYSLOP (- aft 1868) & Euphemia McKNIGHT / McNAUGHT (- aft 1868), in Gailslid, Crossmichael, Kirkcudbright, SCOTLAND.
Mary HYSLOP Born on 12 March 1834 in Rerrick, SCOTLAND. GRO879/000002.
They had the following children:
i. John. Born in 1869 in Crossmichael, Kirkcudbright, SCOTLAND.
ii. Mary Jessie McKnight (Never Married) (1870-1937)
iii. William ?. Born in 1871 in Twynholm, Kirkcudbright, SCOTLAND.
iv. Jemima Ann. Born in 1872 in Crossmichael, Kirkcudbright, SCOTLAND. In the 1891 census her occupation is as a general servant.
v. Christina ?. Born in 1873 in Twynholm, Kirkcudbright, SCOTLAND.
vi. Maria Euphemia. Born in 1875 in Crossmichael, Kirkcudbright, SCOTLAND. (GROS 863/000015) Maria Euphemia died in 1944 in Haddington, East Lothian, SCOTLAND. GROS 709/000028.
Sadly James' second wife Mary EDINGTON died in Auchendolly, Crossmichael, Kirkcudbright, SCOTLAND, on 31 March 1878, aged only 44 years. Again, I do not know where she is buried.
On 23 November 1880 James married for a third time Nicholas KIRK, daughter of John KIRK & Flora Wilson MAXWELL, in Forresthead, Kirkmahoe, Dumfries, SCOTLAND.
Nicholas KIRK Born on 3 December 1848 in Kirkmahoe, Dumfries, SCOTLAND. GROS 835/000003.
They had the following children:
i. John ?. Born in 1884 in Crossmichael, Kirkcudbright, SCOTLAND.
ii. Flora. Born on 10 May 1886 in Auchendolly House, Crossmichael, Kirkcudbright, SCOTLAND. In the 1901 census her occupation is an assistant grocer.
James EDINGTON died on 28 November 1906 in Springholm, Kircudbright, SCOTLAND.
Nicholas EDINGTON died in 1929 in Newington, Midlothian, SCOTLAND.
I am unsure as to the burial place of either James or Nicholas.
